West Ham sign Brazilian star Lucas Paqueta from Lyon for record fee

West Ham have successfully completed the signing of Brazil international, Lucas Paqueta, as confirmed by the club on Monday evening. The signing is a record fee for the hammers as we could see it rise to over £50,000,000 with add ons, increasing the record from Sebastian Haller's arrival at the club for £45,000,000 back in 2019. The signing of Paqueta is just another statement of intent from the club this summer, as it takes the total summer spending to around £170,000,000-£180,000,000. Furthermore, as confirmed by ExWHUemployee, the hammers are still keen to add a couple more additions to the squad before the window shuts in a few days time.

Paqueta is a Brazilian international who has 33 caps for his country, he has played in Brazil with Flamengo, Italy with Milan and France with Lyon before making the move to East London and has experience of playing in the Europa League, as West Ham fans will remember, given he played against us last year for Lyon. Paqueta was a star at Lyon in particular and was named in the UNFP 2020-21 Ligue 1 team of the year.

Following his announcement as a West Ham player yesterday, he has been doing numerous pieces of media work in which he has outlined his attributes and goals for both himself and the club going forward. Paqueta spoke of his knowledge of club legend Geoff Hurst and went onto explain of how he was aware of the club's history. He also explained that he can comfortably play in either a number eight role or as a number ten. Paqueta was confident of how his relationships with players such as Maxwell Cornet and Emerson Palmieri will help him both on the pitch and off as he joins the West Ham group and also stated that he was aware of the quality which is already established in the West Ham squad. He outlined his aims for West Ham, stating that the club should be looking to win every competition they are involved in, with a particular focus upon the Conference League. Paqueta lastly went onto speak about his own style, stating that the fans can expect dedication and commitment and that he will do everything to perform well and help the team win.
